This is a great article. This really puts into words the feelings that I have a lot. That moment's peace is something I seem to long for so often but have so much trouble finding. People seem to expect friendly people to always want to socialize, which for me is not true.

Tisk-tisk, William - you're a trifle harsh on the social butterflies! To me, the dichotomy is false. We are all to some extent and depending on various factors, sociable introverts or private extroverts. For the sake of spiritual nourishment, everyone needs and most likely finds some time to retreat to a soothing activity, or inactivity( 'quiescence' as you call it). Granted, socialising in a UWC is hightened and at times overwhelming. But, it forms a crucial part of our learning experience and the potential to engage with peers should not be prematurely dismissed as 'superfluous' or regarded as nuisance or nonsense. Also creative inspiration does not necessarily exclusively emerge from solitude or reclusion - some of the most eccentric and extroverted personalities are considered paragons of creativity and originality.

Hi Andy,

I just noticed your response, and I'm sorry it took so long time. I am glad to hear that you enjoyed the article.
I would be happy to discuss with you about the issue, and I am sure that the whole AC will give all its support to help thinking more sustainable ways of living in Mostar and with anything else. Could we maybe talk by e-mail?
You can always contact me to my college e-mail, ac09aask@atlanticcollege.org

cheers,
Assi

6% of the students believe that I deserve the death penalty? That's insane!
Just a little reminder: if all religions were properly practiced according to their 'holy' scripts, we would ALL deserve death penalty for VERIOUS ludicrous reasons.
I think platform 6 needs to take serious action here. We need an agnostic-atheist activity as well to address this frightening ancient way of thinking.

Hey Assi,

This is a great article and I'm really interested in extending this environmental emphasis to our own school, UWC in Mostar. We're still new to the UWC community, and most of our time has been devoted to surviving in the "short term", not thinking about sustainable solutions for our school, especially because of limited resources. I'd love to hear more about this week and what AC is doing for the environment so that we can hopefully spread that here and elsewhere.

It's great to hear your motivation for this pressing issue. We need young generations like you fighting for our planet.

Best,
Andy

Thank you for your informative article. I would just like to point out an error if I may?

Muslims were not the only religious group to refuse to take part in the genocide.

Jehovahs Witnesses also refused to take part. Out of approximately 2,400 witnesses and unbaptised interested ones, 400 lost their lives; the rest became refugees.

It is very interesting that RIZIK has invaded a blog with his propaganda which has little or no backing. What is more interesting is that RIZIK has has mentioned that the MJPC is calling for an arrest warrant for the arrest of Bosco Ntaganda.
Does RIZIK actually know who Bosco Ntaganda is or what he stands for or is it that RIZIK felt he had to have a cause to fight for and so he picked MJPC.
Bosco Ntaganda is a a patriot who fought to defend the banyamulenge tutsi trapped in Congo when they had no line of defence. Bosco Ntaganda was in the RPF when they marched in Kigali to put a stop to the Rwandan genocide.
Unlike the undisciplined highly disorganized congolese army which is largely to blame for the rape and looting going on, Ntaganda's men who were at one time under Nkunda are highly disciplined fighting with a moral code.
It is easy for the congolese to blame their plight on the 'Rwandan invaders' but it has to be known that the congolese government housed genociders who no one it seems has formed any movement to call for arrest warreants for it's leaders living lavishly in Germany.
The area inhabited by the banyamulenge tutsis was at one time part of the rwandan kingdom until during the scramble for africa when King Leopold annexed it for his personal Congo territory due to its minerals. The tutsi who have lived there have lived under constant threat unable to go live in Rwanda among fellow Rwandans because they would be leaving their own ancestral home and at the same time unable to annex where they live to be part of Rwanda because the whole world would go insane if the mineral rich territory fell under the hands of a responsible government.
Chaos is necessary in the Kivu for the looters of africa to carry their work out in impunity-no one ever mentions the high population of both rwandan tutsis and hutus in the kivu who are usually the scape goats for congolese mismanagement, no one ever recalls that the kivu was part of the gretater rwanda kingdom and peace can be found their if its under the rightful rule.
AS for accusations against Ntaganda, they are just diversions from the real issue. Men like Laurent Nkunda who was the Che Guevara of the great l;akes region had to live their lives as unsung heroes and as the villains after preventing a repeat of 1994.
Rwanda was one the greatest kingdoms in the conmtinent of africa until colonization and it fell hard during the genocide but now it has risen form the ashes and it is becoming the greatest republic in the continent-it is about time someone saw the bigger picture that the kivus will never rest until the belong to both rwanda and burundi again. Besides, all exemplary leaders of the region are actually rwandans-Jospeh Kabila's real parents were rwndan, Museveni fo Uganda was born in Rwanda but raised by a ugandan step father
