IT’S 5.30am and the wooden bell rings several times, accompanied by the rooster’s crows. It’s still dark but the villagers are getting ready to attend their daily church service at six am before they prepare for the day.

This is the daily morning routine for the locals in Bario, a small predominantly Kelabit village, with an estimated population of around 1000 people, in Sarawak.
